āDAVE SCHEELE
Hello! Iām Dave Scheele. I'm a graphic designer and illustrator from Washington DC, and currently based outside of Tampa, Florida.
I specialize in sports design, exhibition design, hand lettering, and portrait illustration. My work is inspired by my passion for sports, music, and collaborative media. The power of the collective emotion and human connection found in communal spaces, drives me to create pieces that bring meaningful art into everyday life.
My goal as a designer is to make creativity more accessible for everyone. I don't think good design should be a luxury, I think it should be an essential, and I hope through my work to bring exposure to and understanding of quality design to as many people as possible.
When I'm not creating things for work, I'm creating things for fun! I can always be found drawing, with a new album release playing, or some Washington Capitals hockey on the tv.
PUT ME ON: THE WEARABLE MIXTAPE
The band tee is a staple in many wardrobes and as someone who loves both music and fashion, I have plenty. My thesis explores themes of self-expression, collection, and identity through physical objects. From a young age, I collected CDs, drawn not just to the music but to the visuals in the booklets, cases, and discs. Clothing, especially graphic tees, became another outlet for expressing what I love, literally wearing my interests on my chest.
I merged these passions into a new concept: the wearable mixtape. I curated a playlist of 20 songs from my CD collection and created 20 original clothing pieces each designed to reflect a specific track. The mixtape includes a lookbook that styles and contextualizes each design. Presented in a gallery setting as a clothing rack with take-home mixtapes, the project invites others to explore music, identity, and self-expression in tangible, personal ways.
