—MELANIE PEREZ
I’m Melanie Perez, a multimedia designer from Paterson, New Jersey, driven by curiosity and the power of creative collaboration. I specialize in graphic design, photography, and video. Blending mediums to craft work that not only communicates, but truly connects ideas and people.
I approach every project like a puzzle, an opportunity to bring together creativity, strategy, and people to make something that resonates. Whether I’m behind the camera, designing for print, or producing and editing video, my goal is always the same. To create meaningful, intentional work. I believe design should spark conversation, build bridges, and create a space for connection.
During my time at Ringling College of Art and Design, the most valuable lesson I learned was that when there's a room full of people and everyone’s saying “no,” don’t be afraid to ask “why?” That mindset fuels everything I do. It’s what drives me to push boundaries, reframe problems, and keep exploring new ways to tell stories that matter. For me, design isn’t just a skill or about making something visually appealing. It’s a tool for communication, connection, and reflection–to push boundaries to create meaningful, effective change.
WHAT IS CREATIVITY?
What is Creativity? is an interactive installation that invites visitors into the raw, personal process of making. Starting with THE CREATIVE SPACE, a bird’s-eye view of an artist’s desktop, the exhibit explores creativity not as a polished product, but as a journey filled with doubt, experimentation, and discovery. It poses the question “Am I creative?” and encourages viewers to explore their own answer.
Through interviews with creatives in design, photography, and motion, the exhibit opens up a wider dialogue about how and why we create. Themes like The Art of Getting Started and Daring to Fail guide reflection and spark connection. Visitors then become co-creators themselves by crafting a personalized booklet from creative prompts, reminding us that creativity lives in all of us.
